Have you noticed the most irritating tantrum Android phones throw at humans? Yes, we are talking about the annoying flashing, flickering, or blinking in and out randomly that our loving Android phones seem to take a liking to at the most unfortunate of moments. This is not just annoying but also potentially harming given that it affects the functioning of the phones and that means ours as well.

Now flickering can be caused by different set of issues in your phone, but mostly these can be handled with quick fixes. Following are our tips and tricks for you which will help you do away with the flickering of your Android next time you face it. Go ahead, have a read –

    1. Restart Your Android

Restarting your phone is your best bet against a host of problems that might be affecting your device. A quick restart does not only work with your phone but most devices as restarting sets most software problems right. So the next time your Android goes awry, just switch your phone off totally, and then wait for at least fifteen seconds before switching it on again. Most probably the screen would not be flickering as you switch the device on cause flickering is a very occasional happening, however, to be ultra sure, you may give the next tip a shot.

      2. Modify Developer Options

Once your device is back on again, go to your Android’s developer options. You would have to first head to Settings. As you most probably would not have developer access you would have to provide yourself that. Once in Settings, scroll down, and tap on About Phone/About Device. Now, scroll down to your device’s build number. You have to tap it around six times or more, which will result in a message on the screen saying you have developer access.

Now, head back to Settings, and there on the bottom you will find Developer Options. Select and scroll down to Drawing. Now check in case Show Surface Updates toggle is set to on. If yes, disable it. Then you would have to go down to Hardware Accelerated Rendering. There you will see the option for disable HW overlays. By enabling this option you will make sure your Android only uses your GPU for screen compositing. It is known that screen flickering usually happens when Android is switching between GPU and CPU for the same function. However, by enabling this option you have made sure the Android switch does not happen which in turn shall make sure your phone does not flicker randomly.

      3. Adjusting the Brightness of Android

In case the Android screen is still flickering, you should go and check your brightness settings. For that, head to your phone Settings, and there under the header of Display Settings, you will find Brightness Settings. You have to first disable any setting for Auto Brightness. Now given the screen flickers with low brightness, you would have to use a higher level of brightness, and vice versa. This will change the condition dramatically for sure. Now, you will either notice the lower flicker or higher than earlier which is indeed a sign of a deeper problem.

      4. Ruling Out Software Problems

All the steps above are more than enough to put any software problem to rest. Once you do some troubleshooting you can be sure whether the flickering is a problem with the software or the hardware of your Android.

In case the flickering persists even after that, we doubt you can not do much here then. You would have to check your Android’s warranty. You could also take the device to get checked at a local store. If the problem is specific to a specific model, you would need to get help.

The steps above should help stop your screen’s flickering and in case they do not, it might be caused by faulty and/or damaged hardware.
